Who We Are
Live Tunes Tonight was first born out of frustration of not being able to easily find live music in the Tacoma area. Weekly Volcano was a good resource early on to finding live music on a particular night, but it was difficult to navigate and full of clutter. It also did not list all of the venues that had live music on a particular night. It was however the only resource in the South End and that ended a few years back leaving a big void. From that void and the overall frustration with the other regional sites, Live Tunes Tonight was launched.
After reviewing pretty much every live music website serving the Puget Sound in detail, we were thinking it would be essential to at least have a website that maintains a comprehensive list of music Venues, Festivals and Artists associated with live music. From this list, we wanted to provide multiple web links to their music calendars, not just one link to their overall website. We wanted to be able to identify a site, festival or artist and quickly look up their event calendar without having to trudge through a general website or do a Google search that turns up a mountain of irrelevant choices. We think we accomplished that goal not only for Tacoma but for the Puget Sound region stretching from Everett in the North to Olympia in the South and areas in-between. We really strive to cut through the clutter and have a website that enables users to find “Who’s Playing Where” in a minimum amount of hyperlink clicks. In some cases, we can get you to a calendar in two clicks. No other music website provides that type of search efficiency or at least we haven’t found it. If we do find it, we will use it instead of our own site. In the end, the goal is to identify live music options quickly and painlessly.
We know many websites provide a big list of venues but we think our site has a bigger list and it also provides multiple RELEVANT links instead of one outdated link. We also know there are many websites that provide actual nightly calendars for their specific city areas. Some are more complete than others. In the North Sound there’s Everett Rock, which is a really great site for that area. A good choice for Seattle is The Stranger, Bands in Town and a few others. For the West Sound, we recommend West Sound Night Out. There are many other specialty sites with music listings and we also have those listed on our website for reference.
We use these sites all the time ourselves but find that some days they are not always complete. There may be a small neighborhood tavern within a mile of your house playing live music on a Wednesday and it may not show on any other search site. We give you a fairly comprehensive list of venues that typically play live music and you can look up their music calendars quickly or call with the provided number in case the calendar has not been updated. We say “fairly comprehensive” since we obviously don’t have them all (nobody does) but we are constantly searching the area adding new venues, festivals or artists when we run across them. Although our site is live music focused, we also provide calendar links to other live entertainment options like live local sports.
Information on How to Use This Site
Our site provides many search options. On the Home Page, you can use the "Quick Site Search" section to quickly find a particular venue, festival or anything we have in our database. Simply type in a partial or full name, select the name from the drop down list and the links will populate below the name. If you want to do a more detailed search, then go to the specified page links shown below on the Home Page and you will see all search options available on those pages. On the Venue, Festival and Other Events pages, you can search by city, zip code, venue type, music type and many other options. Want to find all of the Jazz bars within a 5 miles radius of your house? You can do that. Want to search for upcoming festivals in the Tacoma area for the month of August? You can do that. We give you quite a few options to find live music quickly. To do a search on a particular night or weekend, we first suggest you actually search “Seattle Stranger” or “Bands in Town” for a Seattle or search “Everett Rock” for the Everett/North Sound area to get a rough idea of the live music options in those areas. From there, you can fine tune your search using “Live Tunes Tonight”. With our comprehensive listings, you will find additional live music options close to home that were not listed on any calendar site. For detailed instructions on how to use each section of our site, please access our Instruction Pages that can be accessed on each of the individual search pages.
